One of the greatest NBA rivalries in the early 1980’s was between Julius Erving and Larry Bird. Erving's Philadelphia 76ers played Bird's Celtics six times in each regular season and faced off in four Eastern Conference Finals between 1980 and 1985. Erving and Bird frequently guarded each other. Erving and Bird battled to a virtual standstill for eight seasons: 2-2 in four playoff series, 12-12 in playoff games, 23-21 in Bird’s favor in regular season games. This is one of a series of paintings Flyers owner Ed Snider commissioned from acclaimed artist Jeffrey Rubin illustrating the greatest champions of Philadelphia hockey and basketball. This impressive work of art hung in Philly’s original Spectrum until it was demolished after its last event in 2009. Rubin’s artwork is painted over a photograph on canvas stretched and mounted on wooden panels and measures 38.5 inches wide x 63 inches high. The artist has hand signed the artwork as well. Letter of Authenticity from Comcast Charities. This is part of the Comcast Charities Collection.
