This September 6, 1993 edition of Sports Illustrated captures the impassioned face of San Diego Chargers linebacker Junior Seau barking defensive signals to his teammates. This is the NFL Special Preview issue and is headlined with "A Blast from the Past/San Diego Charger Linebacker Junior Seau: The New Butkus." Seau emerged into a Pro-Bowler and team leader. His death in May 2012 stands as a tragic coda to all his accomplishments, on and off the field. Seau boldly signed the cover of this SI in vivid silver Sharpie (grade 10), just to the right of his helmeted-face and above the title. The signature has been authenticated with a COA from James Spence Authenticators ((#H64242).
