LeRoy Neiman was an American artist who in the 1960s began painting sporting events, contributing to game programs for the New York Jets and other teams. Neiman painted sports extensively, depicting events from the Olympics, the Super Bowl, the World Series, and the Kentucky Derby. Presented here is a limited-edition #310 of 350 serigraph of Funny Cide signed by LeRoy Neiman. Funny Cide was a thoroughbred racehorse who won the 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. The popular horse was the first New York-bred horse to win the Kentucky Derby. This presented serigraph is done in Neiman’s traditional minimalist and pointillist style and features Funny Cide midstride galloping towards victory. The bright and vibrant colors lend themselves to Neiman’s animated style and give the serigraph a sense of realism. The serigraph rests upon a white matte with gold trim inside a 39 x 39 ½ -inch gold frame. Neiman signed his name in pencil on the bottom right corner of this gorgeous serigraph. A true monument to one of racing’s most popular horses, the item is in great condition and is a must-have for Triple Crown fans.
