Graded GEM MT 10 by PSA. Hall of Famer, in his first stand-alone Topps gum card appearance. Among more than 3,650 copies recorded in PSA's census reporting, just thirteen examples – fewer than one-half of one percent – have been placed at this supreme tier. For most collectors, Schmidt's first offering from Topps in 1973 seems to be somewhat underwhelming in appearance, relative to his tremendous career. (Members of the 500 Home Run club shouldn't be forced to share a cardfront with anyone else!) Many enthusiasts wish that the art directors at Topps had access to time machines, so they could remedy their miscalculation and give Schmidt a Rookie Card to himself. Until that time comes, however, Schmidt's 1974 Topps card, his second, serves as a very worthy representation of the youthful slugger. Four razor sharp corners, great color and high gloss highlight the offered item's pristine aesthetic. Elite Gem Mint condition.
