Cal Ripken, Jr. said goodbye to Baltimore’s Memorial Stadium by recording his finest season in the old ballpark. The Orioles icon belted 34 home runs with a .323 average while claiming his first Gold Glove Award. In that summer’s All-Star Game, Cal went 2-for-3 with a 3-run homer that earned him the game’s MVP Award. By the end of the season, it was only natural that the O’s Iron Man should have the American League’s MVP Award bestowed upon him as well, the second such honor of his Hall of Fame-bound career.

Cal Ripken Jr. used this Rawlings Pro 6-HF glove during his MVP 1991 season as a back-up and possibly during games, coming directly from his personal collection. This glove displays light game wear and was constructed of premium grade “Heart of the Hide” tanned steer hide, bound with tanned rawhide laces and nylon stitching. The glove features a pro-style single post, double T-bar web, and a closed “Fastback” with finger “Holdster” and adjustable wrist strap. The fingers are highlighted with natural welting. A white on red Rawlings wrist label and an embroidered Rawlings logo appear at the base of the web. The year code on the glove “EEA01” indicates that the glove was manufactured in March of 1990. Ripken has noted “91” in black marker on the index finger. The glove comes in a clear bag that came directly to us from Cal and was labeled “Backup Gamer MVP Season Gold Glove Used in game when game glove was being fixed”. This glove comes with a signed LOA from Cal Ripken, Jr. and a LOA from PSA/DNA (1G00717) for the game use.
