Offered here is a pair of size 11 black leather Nike cleats worn by Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. during the Orioles’ 3-2 American League Wild Card clinching victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at the SkyDome in Toronto. These cleats come directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. Ripken batted 2-for-4 with a double off Erik Hanson in the second inning and a single off of Dane Johnson during the top of the ninth inning during the victory that is most remembered for a spitting incident between Orioles second baseman Roberto Alomar and home plate umpire John Hirshbeck. The presented cleats feature the Nike “Swoosh” logo on the instep and outstep of each cleat in orange. Velcro fastened lace guards feature Ripken’s number “8” embroidered in orange thread. Hard rubber soles anchor six stainless steel cleats. Ripken’s initials “C.R.” are flanked on each side by small Nike swooshes embroidered in orange thread on each heel. The cleats display excellent game use and contain large stains on the toe guards of each cleat, small stains throughout the cleats, and wear on the soles. The game used cleats worn by Ripken during the Wild-Card clinching game against the Toronto Blue Jays on September 28, 1996, come from the personal collection of Cal Ripken Jr. and are accompanied by a signed LOA from Cal, plus an LOA from J.T. Sports (1364-Right Cleat, 1365-Left Cleat).
