Closing out his Hall of Fame career in 2001, Cal Ripken hit 14 homers, with 68 RBI and 16 doubles, in 2001. Of course, Ripken will long be remembered for his historic consecutive games played streak of 2,632 that will never be broken. The lifelong Oriole was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 on his first ballot. Presented here is one of the jerseys worn by Ripken during his final season in 2001 and comes directly from his personal collection. This home white Baltimore Orioles’ button-down jersey was manufactured by Majestic and has “Orioles” with a paraph sewn on across the chest in black and orange tackle twill. Black piping runs around the collar and down both sides of the buttons and on the sleeve ends. The Majestic tag is sewn on the front left tail with a “50” flag attached indicating the size. The back of this jersey has “RIPKEN” and “8” sewn on in black and orange tackle twill with an MLB logo patch in Orioles colors sewn on above the black piping on the collar. The left sleeve has an Orioles’ logo patch, while the right sleeve has the “100 SEASONS AMERICAN LEAGUE” patch worn by all AL clubs in 2001. Ripken has marked this jersey in a clear plastic bag that his written “2001 Game Jersey 100 Seasons’ Patch”. This jersey displays light game use and comes with a signed LOA from Cal Ripken, Jr. stating this comes directly from his personal collection.
