Charles Ebbets broke ground for his eponymous baseball showcase in 1912, he poured money and concrete into the construction and watched his 23,000-seat “palace” rise from cleared land parcels in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. Opened for the 1913 season, Ebbets Field accommodated the legacy that has become the Dodgers for 45 seasons. “Dem bums” always seemed to “wait til next year.” Once known as the “Bridegrooms,” the team was more a bridesmaid as a World Series championship eluded them year after year. Jackie Robinson integrated baseball at Ebbets Field. And finally, in 1955, Ebetts Field welcomed a World Champion, only two years later it would be abandoned.

The last Dodger game ever played at Ebbets Field occurred on Tuesday night, September 24, 1957. The final game of the season saw the Dodgers conquer the Pirates, 2 – 0. By the New Year, the Dodgers were in Los Angeles and Ebbets Field awaited demolition. For some, Brooklyn has never been the same.

This ticket preserves the occasional miracle, infrequent misfortune, and eternal magic of “dem bums.” This 2.5- x 1.25 inch stub reserves Section 2, Row 3, Seat 5 in the Upper Stands. The holder entered through Gate A and paid $2. The scripted “Dodgers” trademark is printed in red across the ticket’s middle. Written in blue ink on the top half of the stub is “Last Game at Ebbets Field” and other illegible words. Most of the disclaimers on the back of the ticket have been effaced. The ticket has been slabbed in acrylic and certified authentic by PSA/DNA.
