The game features Solid Snake, an operative working with the special forces unit FOXHOUND, who infiltrates Outer Heaven to destroy Metal Gear, a bipedal tank with nuclear capabilities, while rescuing FOXHOUND operatives. The game that launched the "Metal Gear" franchise was directed by the legendary Hideo Kojima and sold 1 million units in the United States.
