Here's the gum card debut of a pitcher whose name became synonymous with excellence and domination, and who accomplished great things at an early age. Koufax retired in his prime and was enshrined at Cooperstown in 1972 – before he turned 40. This piece is a sharp and desirable memento of the then 20-year-old future phenomenon. Highlights include near-perfect corners, with unforgiving scrutiny revealing only the faintest traces of clean wear, and favorable centering. This example exhibits great focus and strong, bright colors. Every major baseball card collection should include a high-grade Koufax rookie, and this one is a prime specimen. Near Mint to Mint condition, with a beautiful presentation.
