He was flashy, a little rebellious and a winner. From the moment he took the New York Jets to an unexpected Super Bowl Championship, Joe Namath became the face of the modern NFL. He was the rare new hero who lived up to the hype: Rookie of the Year, Super Bowl MVP, 4-time All-Star, and 2-time league MVP. During the early 1970’s, he became the first football player to successfully turn his on-field exploits into a mega-brand, encompassing everything from TV commercials and acting to nightclub ownership and broadcasting.

Offered is this New York Jets game issued road jersey that dates to the 1969-1972 period when the name Joe Namath meant football. This Sand-Knit durene jersey is correct for the late 1960’s early 1970’s period. The front has Namath’s number “12” in green tackle twill with green and white striped sleeves. Namath’s number “12” is also sewn on in white tackle twill on the green sleeves. A Sand-Knit size 52, along with a “Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the New York Jets AMERICAN FOOTBALL CONFERENCE by Sand-Knit” tags are sewn in the bottom left front tail. The back has “NAMATH” sewn on in green tackle twill on a matching white durene nameplate and his number “12” sewn on below in the same green tackle twill. The jersey does not display game use and comes with a LOA from MEARS for the game issue and has been graded an A5.
