"Metroid" is an action-adventure open-world game with platform elements that pitted bounty hunter Samus Aran traveling to the planet Zebes to confront Mother Brain and the Space Pirates from using the life-force draining Metroids against the Galactic Federation. The game is noted for its open-world, haunting score, power-ups, and multiple endings. The ending revealed Samus to be a woman; thus, "Metroid" is the first game in NES history to have a female protagonist.
