The game is the first game chronologically in the “Dragon Warrior” series and features “The Hero,” who embarks on a quest with his companions to stop the archfiend Baramos. The game is known for its open-world gameplay and nonlinear structure, the introduction of a day and night cycle in which characters, items, and quests were only available during specific times. The game helped push the role-playing game genre in different directions that continue to influence games today.
