The first Rookie of the Year award was given to Jackie Robinson, the most important rookie in baseball history. The Hall of Fame second baseman, although he played first base his rookie season, hit .297 his rookie season, along with 125 runs scored and 29 stolen bases. In 1987 the award was renamed for its first recipient and is known to this day as the Jackie Robinson Award. 26 recipients of the Jackie Robinson Award have signed this 16 x 20-inch print in blue marker, including Hall of Famers Tom Seaver, Andre Dawson and Rod Carew, along with Darryl Strawberry, Chris Chambliss, Al Dark, Frank Howard, Gil McDougald, Don Newcombe, Stan Bahnsen, Al Bumbry, Joe Charboneau, Bob Hamelin, Ron Hansen, Ron Kittle, Pat Listach, Fred Lynn, Gary Matthews, Bake McBride, John Montefusco, Gregg Olson, Gary Peters, Don Schwall, Ted Sizemore, Bill Virdon and Jerome Walton. This piece is named “Jackie Robinson 1947 Rookie of the Year 1st Ever Recipient” and this photo is a limited-edition 29 of 42. This comes with a COA from JSA (W25821), which authenticated 22 of the 26 signatures (Seaver, Carew, Dawson & Strawberry not covered by JSA), plus an additional COA from Ai Verified (AA19395), which authenticated all 26 signatures.
