Presented here is a letter signed by former Senator and Vice President Hubert Humphrey. Humphrey served as a senator from Minnesota from 1949 to 1964 before being tapped by President Lyndon Johnson to serve as his Vice President from 1965 to 1969. Humphrey would earn the Democratic nomination for President in 1968 and would lose to Republican Richard Nixon. Humphrey returned to the Senate in 1971 and served until his death in 1978.

The first item in this lot is an 8 x 10 ½ -inch typed letter on Official United States Senate letterhead signed by Humphrey. The letter, addressed to a John W. Snyder of the Overlord Corporation in Toledo, Ohio on September 22, 1964, was in response to Snyder’s congratulating Humphrey on his nomination as Vice President at the Democratic Convention. Humphrey begged Snyder to excuse his delay in responding, as Humphrey had been busy on the campaign trail and with his duties in the Senate. Humphrey closed the letter with “Again, thanks and best regards” and signed the letter in black ink. The signature is bold and clear, and the signed letter contains elements of toning on the edges and a small stain on the bottom of the letter. The typed letter signed by Hubert Humphrey comes with an LOA from Beckett Authentication for the signature.

The second item in this lot is a 5 x 7-inch black and white photo of Hubert Humphrey signed and inscribed by the former Vice President. The photograph features a smiling Humphrey in a suit and tie and is inscribed “To (sic) with best wishes” with a black marker at the bottom of the photograph. The signature is clear, and the photograph contains a black mark on the left side and bending of the bottom right corner. The item comes with a COA from JSA (N58880) for the signature.
