Presented is a 1973 Lou Holtz Outstanding Achievement as Football Coach award presented by the Upper Ohio Valley Dapper Dan Club. The xx x xx x xx-inch brown wood and gold metal trophy features a carved gold metal figurine of a football coach on one knee at the top left, with a running back carrying the ball in the lower right of the base. There is a gold metal strip down the left front of the base from just below the statue of the coach, while at the right front are two black alligator skin simulated vinyl strips with silver metal accents. At the lower base of the trophy is a xx x xx-inch gold metal plaque engraved with the legend "LOU HOLTZ NORTH CAROLINA STATE HONORED BY UPPER OHIO VALLEY DAPPER DAN CLUB FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AS FOOTBALL COACH JANUARY 21, 1973." Holtz's second job as a collegiate head coach came in 1972, when he left William & Mary to take over North Carolina State, where he compiled a 33–12–3 record in four seasons. His first three teams achieved final Top 20 rankings, including a final Top 10 finish in the 1974 Coaches Poll. His 1973 team won the ACC Championship.
