Offered is a 1996 Lou Holtz game worn and signed Notre Dame hat worn for career win #215 on October 16, 1996 versus the University of Pittsburgh. The navy ball cap features the interlocking "ND" logo embroidered in gold on the front above the word "Irish", also embroidered in gold. The back of the cap features a Navy-blue plastic adjustable band below the Reebok logo embroidered in gold. Holtz has inscribed "Notre Dame 60 Pittsburgh 6 This hat was worn by Lou Holtz 11/16/96" in black marker on the underside of the cap's bill, which is white cloth. Despite finishing the 1996 regular season 8-3, Notre Dame did not play in a bowl game. The Fighting Irish turned down an invitation to play the Auburn Tigers in the Independence Bowl, believing that Auburn was an unworthy opponent and that the Independence Bowl was an unworthy bowl destination.
