Presented is a 1995 City of Las Vegas Proclamation of October 21, 1995, presented to "The Fightin' Irish of Notre Dame" in recognition of their 13th consecutive victory over USC. The proclamation is displayed within a xx x xx-inch Navy-blue leatherette folder embossed in silver with the seal of the "City of Las Vegas Nevada" at the center. The back of the folder is blank Navy-blue leatherette. The interior of the folder features red silk lining, with the proclamation mounted in the right interior. The xx x xx-inch ivory paper certificate bears the legend, printed in black, "City of Las Vegas Office of the City Council PROCLAMATION By virtue of the power invested in me by the laws of the State of Nevada and by the Charter of the City of Las Vegas, I, Michael McDonald, Councilman for the City of Las Vegas, do hereby Proclaim Saturday, October 21, 1995 as The Fightin' Irish of Notre Dame Day to pay tribute to Notre Dame's Thirteen Consecutive Victories over U.S.C...". The document includes a silver paper embossed seal of the "City of Las Vegas Nevada" in the lower left corner. The Notre Dame versus University of Southern California football rivalry, which began in 1926, is considered one of the most important in college football, and is often called the greatest intersectional rivalry in college football. The rivalry game has been played every year from 1926 to the present, with the exception of 1943–1945 when the game was cancelled during World War II and in 2020 when the Pac-12 Conference cancelled all non-conference games in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The teams play for the Jeweled Shillelagh, a trophy that goes home with the winning team each year. Notre Dame leads the series 47–37–5. Despite many close games, the series has seen dominant runs by both side: USC went 12–2–2 from 1967 through 1982, Notre Dame went undefeated (11–0–1) from 1983 through 1995, and USC went undefeated (8–0) from 2002 through 2009. This item comes with a LOA from Lou Holtz, and 100% of the net proceeds from the sale of this item will benefit the Holtz Charitable Foundation, Inc.
