Offered is the 1988 Chevrolet Division IA Coach of the Year trophy presented to Lou Holtz. The xx x xx x xx-inch gold metal and brown wood trophy includes a gold metal football at the top, with a xx x xx-inch black metal plaque on the front engraved with the caption "LOU HOLTZ UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME" in gold letters. On all four sides of the football at the top base are mounted gold metal eagles with wings raised. The top base is mounted on three gold metal columns. Please note that a fourth column, at the left front, is missing. In the center of the columns is a gold metal statue of a football player with a football in his right hand and a helmet at his left, atop a brown wood base. At the front of the wood base is a gold metal circular seal with the legend "Chevrolet Scholarship Program" embossed in black, below a pair of figures in profile, one holding a diploma and wearing a graduation cap at the left, and one holding a football wearing a helmet at the right. Below the middle base with the statue and seal is a bottom section featuring a xx x xx-inch black metal plaque engraved in gold with the legend "1988 CHEVROLET COACH OF THE YEAR DIVISION IA AS SELECTED BY THE CBS SPORTS STAFF". The Irish, coached by Lou Holtz, ended the 1988 season with 12 wins and no losses, winning the national championship. The Fighting Irish won the title by defeating the previously unbeaten and No. 3 ranked West Virginia Mountaineers in the Sunkist Fiesta Bowl in Tempe, Arizona, by a score of a 34–21. The 1988 squad, one of 11 national title squads for the Irish, is considered to be one of the best undefeated teams in the history of college football. This item comes with a LOA from Lou Holtz, and 100% of the net proceeds from the sale of this item will benefit the Holtz Charitable Foundation, Inc.
