Offered is a 1991 Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania "Key to the City" plaque presented to Lou Holtz. The xx x xx-inch brown wood plaque features a gold metal engraved key at the top center with the enamel "City of Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania 1871" logo in black, yellow, gold and green at the right edge of the key. Below the key is a black and gold metal plaque engraved with the legend "THE CITY OF WILKES-BARRE HONORS LOU HOLTZ WITH THIS KEY TO OUR CITY February 21, 1991 LEE A. NAMEY, MAYOR". Holtz was in the last few years of his tenure as head football coach at the University of Notre Dame when he was given this award. During his Notre Dame tenure, Holtz guided the Fighting Irish to the 1988 National Championship and coached 132 games in 11 seasons (1995-1996) with an overall record of 100-32-2. He holds the Irish record for most games coached and is second to Knute Rockne in total victories. Holtz took his Notre Dame teams to nine straight New Year's Day bowl games from 1987 through 1995. This item comes with a LOA from Lou Holtz, and 100% of the net proceeds from the sale of this item will benefit the Holtz Charitable Foundation, Inc.
