Former pitcher Ed Lopat enjoyed a solid and productive career with the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles, where he was in the pitching rotation of the great Yankees teams that won five straight World Series titles. Lopat’s final season in the majors was with both the Yankees and Orioles in 1955 and wore this presented New York Yankees home pinstriped flannel jersey in that season. This button-down jersey has the famed interlocking “NY” sewn on the upper chest in navy felt and is original to the jersey – an unusual occurrence as most jerseys from this era were stripped of the “NY” when sent to the minors for recirculation. Identifying this jersey to Lopat is the embroidered “Lopat 55-30” on the front left tail. This indicates the player, year and number. The number 30 is not on this jersey on the back as it was replaced by the number “62”, which given that the “NY” was not replaced, indicates this jersey was re-issued for spring training use. The Spalding tag with a “44” tag stitched to the right are sewn on the inside back collar and a Spalding wash tag with a “SET 1 1955” flag is sewn on the inside front left tail. This jersey displays light to moderate wear and is good condition, showing some toning and staining. This comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert William Henderson (21-0927J01) for the game use.
