Graded 20 FR 1.5 ("FR 1.5" equivalent) by SGC. Hall of Famer. Offered here is a very elusive Babe Ruth card, in the form of the 1923 V117 Maple Crispette issue's #8 entry. Produced by a Montreal candy maker, the V117 set is comprised of 30 subjects; a complete set of the cards could have been exchanged for a free baseball, bat or glove, as described on each card's back. As is the case with most redemption programs (such as later versions sponsored by U.S. Caramel in 1932 and George C. Miller in 1933), the nature of the maker's promotion inevitably resulted in an ongoing scarcity of single cards. This Ruth example has endured the aging process gracefully, with bright, barely toned cardstock and laudatory clarity in the Ruthian likeness. A past encounter with rubber-banding has left traces of superficial paper loss in the cardfront's right-side margin (barely affecting the slugger's portrait) with associated light discoloration and surface wear. The item's back exhibits bold print. A captivating, seldom-seen collectible, in Fair condition.
