Graded 84 NM 7 ("NM 7" equivalent) by SGC. Hall of Famer, in his Bowman Rookie Card appearance. Satchell Paige became the first African-American pitcher in the American League when Bill Veeck signed him to a Cleveland contract in 1948. Pitching mostly in relief, he finished with a 6-1 record. Fans can only speculate what Paige's major league record would have been if he had been signed before he reached age 40! This is a handsome specimen of Paige's first and only vintage Bowman card. Its portrait details and background hues reveal balanced toning from age, and light "touches" to the corners are just fleetingly visible. A commendable piece depicting the most celebrated pitcher ever to come out of the Negro Leagues, in Near Mint condition.
