David Ortiz started off 2009 slow, not connecting for his first home run until the last week of May. However, once started, Big Papi never looked back. On July 9th, he slammed the 300th round tripper of his career and in September he hit the 270th home run as a DH, breaking the all-time record held by Frank Thomas. This Rawlings 456Bmodel bat dates to Ortiz’s record breaking 2009 season. The Rawlings 456B model bat shows excellent use and is un-cracked. There are ball marks, white leather scuffs, gold ink transfers present on the barrel. The handle has some blue bat rack streaks while the upper handle has a light coating of pine tar. The bat’s model number “456B”, order number “022” and year “09” are stamped on the knob. Ortiz’s number “34” sticker is affixed to the knob with a Schutt sticker and the bat’s weight “32” and “Ortiz” are written on the knob in blue ink. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B26244) for the game use and has been given a very high grade of GU 9.
