Robert Crumb, known widely as "R. Crumb," is a prolific underground cartoonist whose work utilizes American folk culture of the 19th and 20th centuries to satirize contemporary American culture. Crumb contributed heavily to the underground comix movement that sprung up during the 1960s and created the first successful underground comix publication "Zap Comix" and introduced the popular counterculture characters "Fritz the Cat" and "Mr. Natural" to mainstream America. Born in Philadelphia and partly raised in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, Crumb's use of crosshatched pen-and-ink style illuminate many of the trappings and ennui that accompany modern American life.

Offered is a 5 x 3 ½-inch original bookplate art resting inside a 9 ¼ x 11 ¼-inch gunmetal frame. The illustration of a man holding a book with the caption "This Book Belongs To:" is done in Crumb's original crosshatched style in black ink on white paper. Crumb signed his name and inscribed "1972" on the bottom of the piece. The frame contains some indentations and scratches that take nothing away from the pure underground comix luster contained within. A great addition to any R. Crumb collection, this original bookplate art comes from one of America's most celebrated underground artists. This comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication.
