He was the "King of Cool", a silver screen icon of the 1960s and 1970s who was the biggest movie star in the world, starring in some of the top films of the day, and setting style on screen and off. Steve McQueen's Hollywood career began with bit parts in westerns and eventually led to his being the most famous and highest paid actor of his time. He parlayed an early fascination with cars and motorcycles into a career as a champion racer, and later as perhaps the most famous collector of vintage automotive machines in the world. Throughout his public life, McQueen exhibited a cool demeanor and style that made him a cultural icon, admired by men, loved by famous and beautiful women, and captured for eternity by the world's top photographers. Whether it was his roles in ensemble classics like "The Magnificent Seven" or "The Great Escape", or star turns in "The Thomas Crown Affair", "The Getaway" or "Papillion", McQueen was the image of cool sophistication. No movie better captured the fascination with McQueen like "Bullitt". The 1968 action thriller was led by McQueen as the title character, an iaconic San Francisco police detective working the murder of a key witness in a mob trial while locking horns with a tough district attorney with his own political agenda. Co-starring Jacqueline Bissett as his girlfriend, with a historic chase scene through the streets of San Francisco in a classic 1968 Ford Mustang, "Bullitt" was a worldwide smash, and is still considered one of the most influential films of the decade. Presented is a Steve McQueen signed and inscribed "Bullitt" black & white 8 x 10-inch publicity still photograph. McQueen inscribed "To Floyd Best Wishes From Steve McQueen" in black marker in the upper right of the photo, which depicts him walking outside a building in a dark turtleneck shirt, tweed sportscoat, and dark slacks, with his left hand going into his jacket pocket. We can only assume that underneath the jacket, Lt. Frank Bullitt's shoulder holster is at the ready, as he surveys his surroundings with a slightly furrowed brow and wry smile. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (Z39817).
