The plan worked, and “Donkey Kong” helped establish market dominance for Nintendo from its release till the early 1990s. Designed by the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto and Gunpei Yokoi, the platform game is historical for being one of the first examples of the platform game genre and introducing Donkey Kong and Mario to the video game world in particular and popular culture in general. Mario has become the mascot of Nintendo, and arguably, the face of video gaming, while Donkey Kong has become a loveable character with his own franchise of platform games.
