As the 1997 season began, Cal Ripken, Jr. had already broken Lou Gehrig’s historic consecutive games played streak and became baseball’s Iron Man. Ripken showed no signs of slowing down as he once again suited up for the Baltimore Orioles for every game in the 1997 season where he batted a solid .270 with 17 home runs and 84 RBI. Presented here is one of the game used black alternate button-down Orioles jerseys worn by Ripken during the 1997 season. This jersey features “Orioles” and a paraph sewn on the front in orange, black and white tackle twill. A Russell Athletic size 48 tag is sewn on the front left tail with a “100% POLYESTER” and “2” EXTRA BODY LENGTH” flags attached, plus a white tag below that reads “1997”. The back has Ripken’s number “8” sewn on in orange, black and white tackle twill and the sleeves have orange piping on the ends, with the left sleeve having the “JACKIE ROBINSON 50th ANNIVERSARY” patch and the Russell Athletic logo embroidered in orange. The left sleeve has the Orioles bird logo patch and a “BALTIMORE 200” patch. This jersey displays light use and comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. with a signed LOA from Cal that will accompany this jersey.
