Cal Ripken, Jr., in the season after he broke Lou Gehrig’s consecutive games streak, put up a solid Triple Crown slash line of .278/26/102 as the Orioles made a surprising appearance in the American League Championship Series. This button-down jersey was worn by Ripken during the 1996 season and comes directly from his personal collection. This jersey features “Orioles” and a paraph sewn on across the chest in orange, black and white tackle twill. Ripken’s number “8” is sewn on below in orange and black tackle twill. Black piping runs around the collar and down both sides of the buttons and on the sleeve ends. The Russell Athletic size 48 tag, along with “100% NYLON” and “1” EXTRA LENGTH” flags are sewn on the front left tail, along with a white patch that has “1996” in black. The back of this jersey has “RIPKEN” sewn on in orange and black tackle twill on a matching gray nameplate and his number “8” sewn on below in orange and black tackle twill. The right sleeve has the Russell Athletic logo embroidered in black, while the left sleeve has the Orioles’ bird logo patch sewn on. This jersey shows moderate game use with a dirt stain on the back right shoulder and Ripken has labeled the clear plastic bag it was stored in with blue marker that reads “1996 Game Used Gray – (Away)”. This comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr., and a signed LOA from Cal that will accompany this jersey.
