Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr’s 1998 season was when the Ironman decided to end the consecutive games’ streak as it came to an end when he sat out the September 20th home game against the New York Yankees. His amazing run concluded at 2,632 consecutive games played, a record that will never be broken. Ripken still had solid numbers in 1998 (14 home runs, 61 RBI and a .271 batting average) and he wore these black and orange Nike cleats during the first part of the 1998 season. These cleats come directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr and are a size 11 ½. Showing excellent wear, these cleats are made of a black leather with orange synthetic leather Nike swooshes. There are Velcro fastened lace guards that feature Ripken’s embroidered number “8” and the undersoles each have six stainless steel spikes. Ripken’s initials “C.R.” are highlighted by two small Swooshes in orange on each heel. Ripken has notated the bag he stored these cleats in by inscribing “1998 Game Spikes Retired These Shoes 5/24/98”. These cleats come directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. with a signed LOA accompanying these cleats.
