The console was Microsoft’s first foray into the home console market and featured a 32-bit 733 MHz Intel Pentium III Coppermine-based processor and 64 MB of DDR SDRAM, and an NV2A graphics card. The system ran on an operating system heavily influenced by Windows 2000 and was the first console to feature a built-in hard disk. The system, lauded for its graphics, sold 1.5 million consoles before the end of 2001, propelled by the popularity of “Halo: Combat Evolved.” The Xbox would sell 24 million units worldwide, including 16 million in North America, and launched the Xbox series of consoles.
