A 45-card near set of 1938 R323 Goudey "Heads-Up" Baseball cards is presented. The Goudey Gum Company's fortunes were approaching the wane – but Joe DiMaggio's were only beginning to be explored – as this delightful set was released to consumers. The 48-card issue's subject matter was restricted to 24 different, high-profile athletes. Each star is featured twice, once in a "White Background" photo head/caricature body presentation, and a second time with the same likeness surrounded by whimsical drawings and comments. White Background highlights include: #'s 241 Gehringer, 246 Lombardi, 249 Foxx, 250 DiMaggio, 257 Lopez, 258 Doerr, 262 Medwick. Cartoon Background highlights include: #'s 265 Gehringer, 270 Lombardi, 273 Foxx, 277 Greenberg, 281 Lopez, 282 Doerr, 286 Medwick, 288 Feller.
