Tony Orlando seemed to be destined for music industry stardom when he had songs on the charts as early as age 16 with a doo-wop group he formed called The Five Cents. After the two early releases, Orlando became a producer himself, and at an early age was promoted to a vice-president position at CBS Records. However, Orlando was led back to a recording career when he was asked to record a demo record of the popular song "Candida.” Concerned about a possible conflict of interest with his other duties, Orlando sang under the condition that his name not be associated with the project, so it was released under the simple name of "Dawn", the middle name of the daughter of Bell records executive Steve Wax. The song became a hit, and ‘Dawn,’ with Orlando and two backup singers, recorded "Knock Three Times" which itself became a #1 hit. Orlando and his backup singers then went on tour and changed their name to the now more universally recognized ‘Tony Orlando and Dawn.’
Offered here is a unique piece of Tony Orlando memorabilia. Orlando has signed this 16 x 20 photo of himself and has also penned the lyrics from the #1 hit “Knock Three Times.” The piece has been authenticated by PSA/DNA (#X52536).
