Encapsulated and assessed "Authentic" by PSA, with signature Certified by PSA/DNA. Hall of Famer, in an early career appearance. Two-time World Series Champion Dave Bancroft – an acclaimed shortstop and, later, big league manager – demonstrates his batting form on this ultra-scarce vintage collectible. The 1916 "Standard Biscuit" production, distributed for a San Francisco-based concern, borrowed style, images and subject matter from American Caramel and other period issues, but remains obscure and challenging to the modern hobby. (The series' full checklist is still unconfirmed.) Bancroft has placed a strong, blue ballpoint signature across the obverse of this example. The piece concedes evidence of heavy handling in the form of a significant vertical crease, and an unknown person's scripting appears on the back. Still, the item's status as a nearly impossible "type" card – and its depiction of a storied athlete – constitute irresistible appeal. Bancroft, a 1971 Cooperstown enshrinee, passed away in 1972.
