How powerful is love? If one was to have asked King Edward VIII, his answer would have included "powerful enough to give up being King". King Edward VIII met Wallis Simpson, an American living in London, while she was still married. After her divorce in 1934, the future King and Simpson began a relationship that was not well accepted by the Royal Family. Eventually in 1936, amid a growing displeasure for Edward's romance with the American divorcee, then King Edward VIII abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson. Presented is a signed note, "To Walter Edge with best wishes from Edward" (Edge was the American Ambassador). The 5" by 6-1/4" signed note comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA. The 27" by 28" framed display also includes a fine printing of the Farewell Speech of H.M. Edward VIII, a business card from Walter Edge and a kidskin ivory glove belonging to the Duchess of Windsor (formerly Wallis Simpson). LOA from University Archives signed by leading historical autograph expert John Reznikoff.
