As a nod to the Yankees juggernaut which had just won their 6th out of the last 8 World Series, the National Poster Stamp Society produced these beautiful stamp sheets. Each individual stamp measures 1.75" x 2.35" and is reproduced in vibrant Kodachrome colors. That these were even produced is a minor miracle since the country was geared towards war production not baseball cards. As a result, many of the Yankees pictured on these stamp sheets don't appear on any other contemporary issue. Besides the wartime replacements, three Hall of Famers make an appearance - Bill Dickey, Earle Combs and Joe McCarthy. This lot contains 24 intact sheets of these 30 stamp pages. Complete sheets are not common as baseball card-starved kids in 1944 eagerly tore into these perforated pages as soon as they got them. Condition of the sheets range from NM to VG. While most of the pages show slight edge wear from storage, the Kodachrome color just pops off the gummed pages. Great colorful tribute to the team that kept the Yankees dynasty strong through the war years.
