This original circa 1900 McClellan style saddle is similar in type used by the U.S Cavalry throughout the Civil War with variations adopted by the US War Department used as standard issue for the remaining history of the horse cavalry through WWII. The McClellan saddle was so-named after George B. McClellan who served as a Union Major General during the Civil War and in 1864 became the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. Because of his political connections and fluidity in speaking French, McClellan was assigned before the Civil War to travel to Europe and observe the European armies during the Crimean War in 1855. He returned with his saddle design adopted by the U.S Army and named for him. This is a rare opportunity to acquire such an important artifact in American military history. Comes with a Gotta Have It certificate that unconditionally guarantees the authenticity of this item.
