This Wrigley Field program from the 1945 World Series played between the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago Cubs features a bright blue and red cover sporting two ballplayers faces side by side confidently looking straight ahead to the championship series that lies in front of them. Inside the front cover is a Wrigley Field Directory directing fans to points of interest at the stadium with a series of fact pages on the Chicago Cubs. The scorecards inside this program have been filled out. Game 4 of this series is where the, “Curse of the Billy Goat,” originated from. Long time fan and Billy Goat Tavern owner Billy Sianis, was asked to leave the game as his pet goat’s odor was offending fans at Wrigley Field. Suffice it to say, Sianis was not pleased and he declared, “Them Cubs, they ain’t gonna win no more,” which has held true as the Cubs have not made a World Series appearance since. Tigers Slugger Hank Greenberg was a driving force in the series as he had been discharged from his military service early, he recorded a pair of home runs in the series along with knocking in seven runners and scoring seven runs himself. The Tigers would go on to defeat the Cubs 4 games to 3 to win the 1945 World Series. The heavy cardboard stock that makes up the cover has helped keep the program in excellent condition.
