The 1986 season proved to be Lawrence Taylor's best as he led the league with 20.5 sack and was the unanimous choice for MVP that year. LT and the Giants rolled into the Super Bowl after making short-work of San Fran and Washington in the playoffs. Sports Illustrated put him on the cover of the Super Bowl issue and when the game began he didn't disappoint. In the first half LT prevented John Elway from scoring on a rollout. The sack proved to be the key play of the game as it took the air out of Denver's offense as the Giants won 39-20. With a Super Bowl Championship under his belt, this day, January 25, 1987 would prove to be the high point of Lawrence Taylor's Hall of Fame Career. LT has hand written that date "1/25/87" and signed the right side of this game used Giants helmet in white paint. The game used navy blue Riddell helmet has the Giants logo on each side with a red stripe running up over the top. Taylor's famous number "56" is hand painted in white on the back of the helmet below which is the Riddell logo on white padding. The chin straps and face mask is intact as is the interior padding. Size 7 1/2 and Riddell manufacturing labels are intact on the interior. The helmet shows great game use with the nicks, scratched and turf marks you'd expect from a real gamer. Signed Letter of Provenance from Lawrence Taylor and COA J38126 from JSA. -Please Note the date 1987 previously in the title referred to the inscription on the helmet not necessarily the year worn. The year worn is not specified in Lawrence Taylor's LOA.
