Wrongly convicted for murder at the height of his boxing career, middleweight boxer Rubin “Hurricane” Carter was later freed after spending nearly twenty years in prison via a petition of habeas corpus. After being exonerated he became an activist for those wrongly convicted. Carter started his career developing an aggressive boxing style that established him as a crowd favorite, earning him the nickname “Hurricane.” His story was made into a major motion picture starring Denzel Washington playing Carter in the film The Hurricane and singer-songwriter Bob Dylan was inspired to write the song “Hurricane,” based on Carter’s experiences. This handwritten letter was mailed to Carter while he was in prison serving time, a fan of his requested “Hurricane’s” autograph or for a signed photograph. In his response back Carter replies that he, “does not have any possessions at this time,” to send to his fan but goes on to thank his supporter, “thank you for making me feel honored.” This letter is beautifully signed by Rubin “Hurricane” Carter along the bottom in black marker. Also included is the original envelope that this letter was mailed in on which Carter has printed his name on the back. Item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA.
