Opening Day Auction Closing May 9th
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/10/2015
A nice musical counterpart to Duffy’s Sinatra piece in our February auction, this radiant tribute is composed solely of the lyrics to Marley’s first hit “Stir It Up.” Written for his wife Rita in 1967, the song was popularized by Johnny Nash (of “I Can See Clearly Now” fame) in 1973, reaching the Top 15 on Billboard’s charts. It was the first Marley tune to gain notoriety outside Jamaica. Duffy’s rendering is illustrated on artboard and signed in pencil.
Bio: Rarely do sports artists emerge who blaze a new trail and reinvent what’s possible, yet Daniel Duffy has been doing just that for over five years with his extraordinary Word Art creations. The Philadelphia-based innovator uses text, numbers, dates, game logs and statistics for his original pen-and-ink portraits of athletes and historical figures. Duffy has sold more than 10,000 prints at public appearances, at the Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park, through Major League Baseball, and on his website. Duffy’s Bryce Harper artwork was featured in a Gatorade commercial. He also was the honored guest for a multi-day live art performance at the TED2014 conference in Vancouver where his subjects included Bill Gates.
