This signature card bears the beautiful, bold blue fountain pen signature of Joseph Pulitzer (1847-1911), the famed newspaper publisher in whose name the coveted Pulitzer Prize is named. In acquiring the St. Louis Dispatch and the New York World newspapers, Pulitzer introduced techniques that paved the way to mass circulation newspapers including the first newspaper comic printed in color when he introduced Richard Outcault’s popular “Yellow Kid” strip. In 1892 Pulitzer offered to establish the world’s first school of journalism at Columbia University which was eventually established in 1912 following his death. Columbia administers the Pulitzer Prize which was also established after Pulitzer’s death in his honor on 1917 and now is the most esteemed award for achievements in newspaper and online journalism, literature and music composition. This is among the finest signatures of this publishing pioneer and icon that we have seen.
