From his successful time in the ring to a lengthy legal battle, the late Rubin “Hurricane” Carter certainly became a much-talked about name in the United States from 1960s to 1980s. In the prime of his career, Carter was two times wrongly convicted of a triple homicide, landing him in prison for nearly 20 years before he was exonerated. Carter’s story inspired such things as the hit 1975 Bob Dylan song “Hurricane” and the 1999 film “The Hurricane,” in which Denzel Carter portrayed Carter. This lot of eight 16x20-inch black-and-white portraits are all signed by Carter in bold, silver sharpie. Seven of the photographs show Carter’s 1962 first-round knockout of Florentino Fernandez at Madison Square Garden, while the other is from Hurricane’s 1964 bout against Joey Giardello, who also signed the portrait in bold, silver sharpie. The portraits remain in strong physical condition with some minor dimpling and surface creases present. Each signed photograph comes with its own PSA/DNA certification.
