Even before he put on a Yankees jersey Mickey Mantle was called "the next Joe DiMaggio". No rookie in the history of the game had bigger shoes to fill than the 19 year-old kid from Oklahoma. After a shaky start and a trip back down to the minors, Mantle bounced back and hit .267 for the rest of his 1951 rookie campaign. While it was far below the standards Mickey would later set, that difficult 1951 season played an important part in shaping the greatest Yankee of the post-war period. This pin-striped flannel is a replica of “The Mick’s” 1951 rookie season home jersey. This Mitchell & Ness jersey is as close as you can come to the one Mantle wore, right down to the heavy flannel feel and American League 50th Golden Anniversary patch on the left sleeve. The Mitchell & Ness tag is in the collar and the "Cooperstown Collection" tag is on the lower front tail. Signed in bold black Sharpie below the timeless Yankees "NY" with “N0. 7” inscription. Upper Deck hologram UDG23768 is affixed to the lower left front tail and "155/536" is hand written in black on the right front tail. Professionally mounted and framed to 37" x 38 1/2".
