Phillies pitcher Brad Lidge turned in a year for the ages in 2008 when the closer went a perfect 41-for-41 in save opportunities during the regular season before shutting the door on the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series, helping Philadelphia earn its first championship since 1980. Thanks to those series of performances, Lidge would go on to win the Rolaids Relief award as the best relief pitcher in the National League that season. As a sign of his appreciation, Lidge bought each member of the Phillies’ bullpen, as well as the catchers, personalized Rolex Submariner model watches lined with diamonds as the number holders on the face. Offered is the Rolex, one of only 12 that exist, given to Phillies reliever J.C. Romero by Lidge in 2008. The reverse plate of the watch is home to the following engraving over four vertical lines:
“J.C. ROMERO
2008 PHILLIES BULLPEN
ROLAIDS RELIEF AWARD
10 OF 12”
The unused Rolex from Lidge still maintains the original manufacturer’s tags with protective film covering the clasp and reverse plate, as well as a protective plastic ring around the face of the watch. The watch is housed in its original green Rolex hard case, which is signed by Romero on the bottom in bold, black sharpie along with the inscriptions “08’ W.S. Champs!” “09’ N.L. Champs!” and “Winner of Games 3 & 5 W.S. 2008.” Comes with a JC Romero LOA.
