Graded 20 Fair 1.5 by SGC. Hall of Famer. Because of his absence for Korean War service, the '54 was Williams' first card since the 1951 Bowman issue. (Back on the field in 1954, the great hitter rebounded with a .345 average, 29 homers and 136 RBI.) For that season, Bowman printed two versions of its card number 66. Following a dispute over his contract with Bowman, Ted Williams' collectible was pulled from production and replaced by one featuring Jim Piersall (who also appears on a card numbered "210"). This very scarce, "short-printed" card of Williams reveals plenty of evidence of past circulation: creases, corner rounding, and scuffing. The Splinter's likeness comes through brightly, however, in a reasonably clear portrait that remains unmistakable, and which will be a precious addition to a budget-focused assembly. Fair condition.
