One of the game’s great gentleman and legitimate role models, Hall of Fame hurler Walter Johnson was held in high esteem as much for his good nature as his multitude accomplishments on the pitcher’s mound. Still the Major League’s all-time leader in career shutouts (110), Johnson’s 417 career wins are second only to Cy Young. One of the Hall of Fame’s inaugural class of “Five Immortals,” Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Maryland and the Bethesda Big Train summer collegiate baseball team are named for him in his former home town.
Johnson wrote out this check from the Germantown Bank dated May 18, 1941 in the amount of 13.68 payable to James Burke and signed at the bottom in blue ball point ink. This 3” x 6” check is PSA DNA encapsulated and graded authentic #83474743.
