Credited with turning the Boston Red Sox fortunes after purchasing the team from bankrupt owner Harry Frazee, Tom Yawkey’s 44-year reign is the longest by a sole owner in Major League history. It is marked by three World Series appearances, (1946, 1967 and 1975) as well as being the last owner to sign an African American player. The street adjacent to Boston’s Fenway Park was renamed Yawkey Way after his death in 1976 and Yawkey was posthumously inducted to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1980. This Spalding Official Lee MacPhail American League ball is signed by Yawkey in blue ball point ink “9-10” In strength with a “To Alfred,” inscription and with the exception of some fading of the ball’s red stitches it remains in nearly pristine condition. One of only a handful of owners to be elected to the Hall, this single-signed Yawkey ball makes a valuable addition to a single-signed Hall of Fame ball collection and comes with PSA/DNA LOA certification #Y03512.
