Of all the modern baseball Hall of Famers, there's no scarcer of more sought after signature than that of Roberto Clemente. The great man's legacy of good deeds and humanitarian work has almost eclipsed his statistical record but let's recap: in 18 years with the Pirates Clemente hit .317, was 15-time All-Star, 2-time World Champion, won 4 batting titles and an MVP Award and hit an even 3,000 career base hits. Chances are that list would have been a bit longer if he hadn't died in a plane crash on New Years Eve 1972. His tragic death is the reason for the scarcity of his signature, and while finding one in any form is difficult, a single-signed ball like this is a collector's dream. Clemente has signed this Cronin Official American League ball in black ball point. The ball looks to have been coated with a light layer of shellack and there is toning and as the photographs show some surface areas have chipped with age. Clemente's distinctive and quite decorative double-decker script signature is readily visible on the side panel and displays nicely. Letter of Authenticity from JSA.
