One of the most revered and tragic figures in baseball history, Roberto Clemente forged an unforgettable career both on and off the diamond. On the field he amassed 3,000 hits, 4 National League batting titles, 12 Gold Glove Awards, 1 NL MVP award, and 1 World Series MVP while being a member of 2 World Series championship teams. Off the field he was the consummate humanitarian, involved in charity work in the off-season to provide aid to struggling countries. Clemente famously lost his life in a plane crash while accompanying a relief effort to Nicaragua on New Year’s Eve 1972, and the baseball world mourned.
This photograph of Roberto Clemente is signed on his left shoulder with the inscription “Best Wishes Roberto Clemente”. The photo is mounted with a white matte and gold border, in a black frame. The photo is accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
